The Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group held a spiritual practice on 8–9 September in Gödöllő.
At the opening of the event, Imre Vejkey, leader of the prayer group, greeted the participants. During the two-day practice, in addition to the regular members, invited guests also helped to deepen the meditation. Father István Kocsis gave a lecture first, who spoke about the sacrament of confession and the sacrament of repentance. As his main message he highlighted that although sin weakens our souls and thus also the community in which we live, we can change our lives with the grace of Jesus Christ. For this, however, it is absolutely necessary that we turn to God with our hearts and that our repentance is sincere.
Before the afternoon lectures, the participants, led by Dr. György Bakondi, Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group Foundation recited the Rosary together. After that, Father Gergő Bese spoke about the peace of Jesus Christ, recalling the events of the Last Supper. Through the example of Jesus, the father showed that achieving divine peace is not an easy task, since we are all fallible. However, according to Christ's teachings, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we ourselves are able to fulfill the task and become bearers of peace. Saints stand before us as examples, among whom the life of St. Rita, St. Teresa of Calcutta and St. Pope John Paul II is exemplary.
After the presentations of the invited guests, prayer group member György Urkuti shared his thoughts with the participants, who also read from the Acts of the Apostles and the Gospel of John. After that he spoke about the role of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. As he said, the life of Jesus stands as an example for his disciples – thus all believing Christians – which we can follow. The practice ended with a conversation and reflection during the evening, followed by a Holy Mass on Saturday.
