Leo van Doesburg visited Budapest

The members of the leadership of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group, Imre Vejkey, Emeritus Chair Dr. György Bakondi, and Chair of the Board of Trustees Dr. Katalin Tóth met Mr. Leo van Doesburg, the Executive Director of the Israel Allies Foundation Europe after the prayer breakfast on October 24, 2023. Mr. Doesburg is also the director and political advisor for European Affairs for the European Christian Political Movement (ECPM).

As the President explained in his introduction, in his political party, they are committed to the social manifestation of Christian Democratic values and their promotion in public life. He added that he had visited Hungary several times before, where on each of his visits he was able to experience the free practice of religion, mutual respect and safety, which are among the most important values in today's world.

Imre Vejkey, leader of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group greeted Mr. Doesburg. However, the joy of the meeting was overshadowed by the Israeli terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, in which hundreds of innocent civilians lost their lives or were captured. Dr. György Bakondi, Emeritus Chair of the Board of Trustees assessed the complexity of the situation in Israel and the accompanying security risks. As he said, Europe and the Christian world are currently under serious attack. The war taking place in our neighborhood, armed conflicts or even illegal migration are great challenges in themselves. He stated that in the struggle for the protection of Christian values, Hungary and the Christian community in Hungary have a particularly important supporting role. Imre Vejkey reminded that King Saint Stephen offered the country to the Blessed Virgin, with which he marked the solid core values of our country to this day. The Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Katalin Tóth spoke in favor of an early end to the Israeli conflict. The meeting ended with a joint prayer for the victims.
