152nd Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast

On April 9, 2024, the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group held its 152nd prayer breakfast. In his introductory thoughts, Imre Vejkey, the leader of the prayer group, talked about the eighth of Easter and the last words of Jesus Christ. He said that according to the message of the spoken sentences, redemption was opened for the sinful through the death of Jesus on the cross. After death only that remains which cannot be defeated by death, and which is the most important: love.

The daily Gospel quote (Jn. 3:7-15) revives Nicodemus' encounter with Jesus. The member of the high council went to Jesus in secret and during their conversation he allowed him to guide his thoughts and accepted his teaching. According to Imre Vejkey, the story tells us to live with an open heart and strong faith and let the Lord lead us and show us things beyond the material world. "The wind blows where it wants," the leader quoted from the Gospel story.

According to György Bakondi, Chair Emeritus of the Board of Trustees, the call is for all of us, since the Lord has called us by name. Confession is an exceptional occasion or divine moment in our life when we become aware of our calling and bear witness to our faith. During the apostolate, we can help our fellow human beings, those who will come after us, on the way to the Lord.

According to prayer group member Ádám Berniczey-Roykó, the last words of Jesus Christ on the cross can also be considered as stations of the faith life. As he explained, the strength of people's faith can fluctuate throughout their lives. At the same time, it is important to stick with the Lord until the end, and – like Jesus Christ – at the last moment of our lives, we also bear witness to our faith.
