On the initiative of Zoltán Szebellédi, Chair of the Christian Democratic People's Party (KDNP) of Békés county, the Békés County Prayer Breakfast was established on May 8, 2024 in the Baptist Church of Békéscsaba.
Dr. Imre Vejkey, member of the Christian Democratic People's Party, leader of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group attended the special event along with dr. Katalin Tóth, Chair of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group Foundation, parish priest Gusztáv Fazakas of Elek, and Tamás Herczeg, parliament representative of Békéscsaba.
In his speech, Imre Vejkey expressed his joy for the formation of the Békés county prayer breakfast. He said that the power of prayer and Christian faith is greatly needed, especially in today's world full of unrest. Foundation Chair Dr. Katalin Tóth added that one of the most important basic tasks of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group is to support the creation of similar prayer groups, thereby promoting the deepening, strengthening and preservation of the Christian identity and faith of Hungarian society.
Zoltán Szebellédi cited the teaching of Matthew's Gospel (Mt. 18, 19-10) regarding the importance of creating a prayer breakfast, which says "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in their midst."
