The Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group held an outsourced prayer breakfast in Esztergom, in the chapel of St. Adalbert Center on May 10, 2024.
In addition to the historic location, the event was made special by the participation of the Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann. The leader of the prayer group, Imre Vejkey, invited the politician during his visit to Germany last year, who gladly accepted the invitation.
During the special prayer morning, a passage from the Gospel of John (Jn. 16:20-23) was read, in which Jesus bids farewell to his disciples at the Last Supper. Christ understood their sorrow, which his departure and the fear of the trials that followed caused his followers. At the same time, he reassured them that – like the pain of a mother who gives birth to her child – their pain will also turn into joy, and they will finally be filled with the joy of meeting the Lord. According to Imre Vejkey, the leader of the prayer group, just like the disciples, we were all called by the Lord by name, which we must go through the path full of trials in order to discover the Truth. This is none other than the hope of eternal life and resurrection, to which we have all received the promise through the death and redemption of Jesus Christ.
In his speech, Minister Joachim Herrmann praised the activities of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group and pointed out that similar prayer groups also operate in Berlin and Munich. He called it significant that the representatives of Christian countries meet regularly and ask the Lord for help in their work and decisions, one of the main goals of which is to preserve the core values of Europe and create peace. He stated that the Christian faith is also the basis of our common values and culture. Evaluating the relationship between the two countries, he mentioned as a historical example that King Saint Stephen chose Gisela of Bavaria as his wife. Finally, he emphasized that the search for Truth and the creation of peace is the most important task of the present age, for which we need all the help we can get.
Róbert Szendrei, Chair of the Supervision Board of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group, spoke about the outstanding role of Esztergom and Saint Adalbert, who baptized our first Christian king, in his celebratory speech. He stated that Hungary has been defending Europe and Christian values for a thousand years, in which struggle it could always count on the help of the Bavarian people.
The special prayer breakfast ended with the violin playing of artist Lajos Kathy–Horváth and a joint prayer.
