On October 22, 2024, the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group held a prayer breakfast for the 165th time.
The event began with a joint prayer and song. After that, Imre Vejkey, the leader of the prayer group, read a passage from Luke's Gospel (Luke 12:35-38). According to Christ's teaching, we all have to be alert and ready to wait for the coming of the Lord, the time of which only He knows. We must live every day of our lives in such a way that we are ready to give an account at any time. Jesus Christ told his disciples to gird up their belts and fill their lamps, so as His followers we must do the same.
Imre Vejkey shared his thoughts related to the words of the Gospel. He said that everything has an appointed time in our lives, during which we must live with the talents we have received from the Lord. We must remain persistent and steadfast, so that we too are ready and waiting for the coming of Jesus Christ with our lamps filled.
According to György Bakondi, Emeritus Chair of the Board of Trustees, Jesus did not announce a political program. He called everyone by name and called them to do the work entrusted to them in the world and be saved. Our common task is to become apostles ourselves and to proclaim the Gospel. During our difficulties and doubts, prayer and dialogue with the Lord always help and give us strength.
Chair of the Supervisory Board Róbert Szendrei said that we are constantly living in Advent, waiting for the second coming of the Lord. However, readiness should not distract us from the Lord's main message, which is to create peace, since Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, sacrificed his own life to bring us peace.
