On 10 June 2025, the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group held its 176th prayer breakfast.
Imre Vejkey, leader of the prayer group, first of all reflected on the feast of Pentecost and its meaning and significance. He quoted the first words of the Risen Christ from the Gospel of John, "As the Father has sent me, so I send you also. (John 20, 21-23)

So the Lord sends us into the world by giving us the Holy Spirit, and our task is nothing less than to build his kingdom on earth. We can do this with courage, relying on the Lord's will and the Holy Spirit to help us achieve our goal.

He then quoted the Gospel passage of the day, in which Jesus taught in this way in the Sermon on the Mount: „You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5,13-16)

Reflecting on the words of scripture, he stressed that we Christians should never forget that we are salt and light. He reminded us of what the Lord also warns us: let us not become tasteless, and let us not lose our light, for then we lose our true value. He encouraged us to live our Christian life to the full and to proclaim the Gospel with courage. Only in this way can we save the world from the corruption that threatens it.

György Bakondi, Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the Hungarian Parliamentary Prayer Group Foundation, then shared his thoughts. He explained that our task is to confess our faith and to shine the light and love of the Lord like a lamp to those around us in our everyday lives, wherever we are. In our families, at work, in the ordinary things and situations of life. And remembering Pentecost and the pilgrimage to Csíksomlyó, he said that it is a great joy and pride to be Hungarian and Christian on this feast, setting an example and bearing witness to our belonging together and to our faith that strengthens it.
